My Fiftieth Year…coming soon 49 years old!

The end of a decade. The beginning of a new decade. I will celebrate my 49th birthday this month, which means this is my FIFTIETH YEAR! That’s overwhelming, underwhelming, exciting, and maybe a bit unnerving all at the same time. I’ve found myself looking back and looking forward over the last few weeks.

When I think back over my life, I’m amazed at the blessings God has poured into me all these years. A wonderful childhood with the most loving parents and grandparents. Fabulous family. Great friends. My soul-mate, my forever date, the love of my life. Four amazing children and now their spouses. Five phenomenally fun grand-treasures. A career that allowed me to love and teach hundreds of children over the years. Countless friends. An early retirement to be able to focus on home and family. I could go on and on and on.

All this in 49 short years!

On the short-term, November was not a great month for goals. It’s like I’ve been on a slide since October. The only things I did consistently were get my steps in (12,000 a day) and work on a Bible study of the Fruit of the Spirit. The last two months have left me feeling a little lacking. You won’t believe this…well maybe you will, but I don’t…I did not finish one single book in November. 😦 Not one. Zero. I also did not complete a single crochet project. I’m going to blame the start of Hallmark Movie Season. But really I just haven’t felt motivated by those things.

All that got me to thinking about the coming year. I want to be present. I want to know God more. I want to love the people God has placed in my life with a renewed fervor. I want to have fun. I want to be healthy. I want to learn new things. I want to be intentionally grateful.

Instead of waiting until January to start working on these things, I decided December…my birthday month…was the perfect time to start. Stay tuned to be part of my journey. Here’s to my 50th year! Growing from 49 to 50 is going to be an adventure!

A few more days at 48!
